Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Payment Date for September 2026
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients are scheduled to receive their September 2026 payment on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
SSI is normally paid on the first day of each month. When the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment is usually sent on the prior business day. Since September 1 is a Tuesday in 2026, there is no early-payment change for September.
September 2026 SSI payment date
| Benefit month | Scheduled payment date | Day |
|---|---|---|
| September 2026 | September 1, 2026 | Tuesday |
SSI is separate from regular Social Security retirement, survivors and SSDI benefits. Those programs often use a birth-date-based Wednesday schedule, but SSI does not.
Who receives SSI?
SSI is a federal program administered by the Social Security Administration. It provides monthly payments to eligible people with limited income and resources who are:
-
Age 65 or older
-
Blind
-
Disabled, including eligible children
Eligibility is not based on a person’s Social Security work history. That is one of the main differences between SSI and Social Security retirement or disability insurance benefits.
What if you receive SSI and Social Security?
Some people receive both SSI and Social Security benefits. In September 2026, SSI is scheduled for September 1. Social Security payments for people who receive both benefits, or who began receiving Social Security before May 1997, are scheduled for September 3.
That means eligible dual-benefit recipients could receive two separate payments during the first week of September.
What to do if your SSI payment is late
If you do not receive your payment on September 1, first check your bank account or Direct Express card balance. Banks and financial institutions may post deposits at different times.
The Social Security Administration advises beneficiaries to allow three additional mailing days before reporting a missing payment. You can review payment details through your my Social Security account or contact the agency through the Social Security help center.
SSI payments are usually sent by direct deposit or to a Direct Express debit card. Keeping your address and banking details current with Social Security can help prevent delays.
